How to Navigate through the
School District Library Catalog

Do your own investigative work!

Learn here how to navigate through the Manatee School website for transparency to see what the District has chosen for Library Books and Curriculum.

Step 1: Manatee County School Website

Step 2: Click on top box – Curriculum

Step 3: Click on left box – Library & Literacy Resources

Step 4: Click on left box – Library Catalog (Destiny)

You will find here all of the Manatee schools from elementary to high school. You can either pick a certain school or group your searches:

Step 5: Pick one school to get into the search catalog.

Step 6: Once on this page go to the top and click on “Catalog” next to Home.

To specify your searches:

  • If you want to search all Elementary, Middle or High Schools click on the drop down menu at the “Location” tab. ( I do not find District or Multi schools to be of any assistance)
  • Type in the title you are searching for in the “Find” box.
  • You can also search by keywords by typing the word or words in the “Find” box – hit enter.
  • If you know a book is in the school and it is not coming up you may have to play with the system. Don’t give up or give in!

Once you are on the page of the requested book that you entered shows up, you may see one or multiple icons of the same book:

  • Click on the book icon or title (you will have to do this for each book you see)
  • You will see a description of the book on this page (Don’t be fooled by how it is described here – do your own internet searches for reviews or summaries)
  • At the top of the page you will see “Copies available.” Click on “See all.”
  • This page will show you all of the schools that have this book in their libraries.
  • To go back to the previous page at the top green header click on “Search Results.”
  • “Library Search” will bring you back to the search criteria page.

When you land on the home page at Step 5 the “catalog search” page you will notice to the left there are additional resources. These are online resources and some materials that are specific to each school. You will also find a multitude of  “links” that give kids access to webpages outside of the school. Another good area to investigate and put on your critical thinking hat!

What to do if you find a book that you think is inappropriate…..

  • Fill out an electronic form here to submit to the district.
  • Download a form here to submit. You can email the form to Laurie Breslin
  • Please also contact that school principal, or copy them on the same email.

On the curriculum page you will find additional resources to investigate.

SCMD Library & Media – Elementary

  • These are the books that that were in the classrooms and NOT in the system (Destiny) that the teachers had to spend time going through their bookshelves to have volunteers come in  to help.  The books will be listed on this page until they are fully vetted and placed in the main district library catalog.

Curriculum Resources:

  • For transparency this is where links are to curriculum, pictures of books and other information. It does NOT show inside the lessons. Most links you need a password.

School Library Materials:

  • This page will show you the original list of books that we submitted that went through a review committee.
  • The minutes and documents from each meeting.
  • This list of books and the final determination can also be found here
  • Notice the amount of books that went back into the schools under “Parental Consent.”
